Notes on day 1

 Day 1 Notes: 

Sit-spot activity:


  • Looking at the veins of the maple leaf: the network they created is connected to 

    the idea of Iterative adjustment


  • After close observation of  trees - noticing how the lines are not straight

  • Human are often  forcing things to be straight (like cut)

  • The role of naming in math education: Naming as opportunity and constraints


Exploring paths:

  •  What is lost by revealing too much about tasks (e.g. talking about slopes)

  •  Visual observation versus noticing how body reacts to walking along different surfaces


Constructing leaves from compass and straightedge:

  •  Constructing as an act of noticing 

  •  Constraining tools as a way to do mathematics and create mathematical objects
